Who'd have thought the King of hot dogs lives right here in Boynton Beach! Nearly every day, I see a hot dog stand set up on the side of Woolbright road, and I have always been curious how the hot dogs taste. The owner of the hot dog stand calls himself "The Hot Dog King".
When I approached the stand, the Hot Dog King (whose real name I never did catch), welcomes me with his slogan, "No Bikinis, Just Great Weinies!" He proceeds to tell me there is no Hot Dog Queen, only a King and a Prince who works on the weekends. The approximately-sixty-year-old King was entertaining, as was his side kick who sat around talking about how he likes his hot dogs.
The menu consists of hot dogs, chili dogs, and an assortment of potato chips. I ordered a hot dog with ketchup, mustard, and grilled onions. The question I had been pondering for years was, "Just how good are the hot dogs made by the King of hot dogs?"
Answer: Not that great. The hot dog was a thin peice of processed meat that tasted like hot dog water. This is probably because he cooks his dogs by boiling them. I prefer grilled. However, even if he had used a different cooking method, I don't think it would have improved the hot dog much. Aside from the nearly tasteless dog itself, he mixed the grilled onions up with the ketchup before putting it on the hot dog, and it was way too much ketchup. Every bite I took tasted like ketchup on a bun sprinkled with hot dog water. Not very appetizing.
If you're looking for the best hot dog in Boynton Beach, you're not going to find it at the Hot Dog King. I would, however, reccomened Steak N' Shake's all beef dogs. They're the best I've ever had. It was a fun stop, though, and I'm glad I did it. Perhaps he should change his slogan to: "No Bikinis, just So-So Weinies".
May 16th marked a milestone in my life. I turned 30. I must admit, turning 30 has done a number on my mind. Just the sound of it: Thirty. Me? Impossible! I say this not because I believe 30 is old, but because it has snuck up on me out of the blue. There are so many things I had hoped to accomplish by age 30 that for one reason or another have not come to pass. Rather than focus on that which I did not accomplish, I am going to focus on that which I hope to accomplish. And so here you have it! I have compiled a list of 30 things I want to do this year while I'm 30 years old. Some of them will take me out of my comfort zone. Some are things I should have been doing all along. Some will be a whole lot of fun! All of it will make for good blogging.
Hello, 30. Let's be friends.
